If we are planning for air travel and planning to bring your favorite Bluetooth headphones with you, this is a good thing that you are making sure that you are complying with the rules and regulations set by commercial airplane companies.

The question is, whether you can use Bluetooth headphones on an airplane or not?

The answer is, Yes, you can surely use Bluetooth headphones on an airplane while the plane is flying.

I have used it a couple of times different kinds of Bluetooth earphones ranging from earbuds to the over-ear headphones. The cabin crew even and noticed I used, and they never ask me not to use it.

However, it is a routine to advise all the passengers to turn off all the electronic devices, including mobile phones, while the plane is taking off.

The reason given is that the frequencies interfere with smooth operations off the airplane while it is taking off.

But once the flight is in the air, two fingers can use their electronic devices, including Bluetooth headphones.

Using Bluetooth headphones by connecting to your mobile phone or Tablet PC

It doesn’t matter whether you switch off your smartphone or not; you can always put it in flight mode or airplane mode when the aircraft is taking off see more info at flybyschool.com.

And since there is no network available when the airplane flies 30 to 40 thousand feet above the ground, there is no point in turning off the airplane mode, read more here. Turn on or turn off; you cannot make calls from the flight.

But when you turn on the Airplane Mode, all the wireless connections including, Wi-Fi, Data, as well as Bluetooth, are turned off. So you need to manually turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone and connect headphones to use them.

Using Noise-Canceling Headphones in Airplanes

The noise-canceling headphones are special designs for reducing the ambient noise of the airplane. And majorly, all of them are Bluetooth enabled headphones.

And the ones that work best are a little expensive. We are talking about a $300+ price.

My recommendations would be Sony WH1000XM3 or Bose QuietComfort 35 II.

These headphones are Bluetooth enabled headphones, but also offer aux cable so that they can be used as wired headphones. But, the noise-canceling only works when it is used in Bluetooth mode.
